Measure L
Measure L is a $100 million school bond which raised the local funds needed to build a new junior high school to reduce overcrowding, replace aging heating, plumbing, and electrical systems to improve energy efficiency, renovate the oldest elementary schools, and make earthquake safety improvements at all District schools.
Measure L funds contributed to:
- Build a new junior high school to reduce overcrowding (Martin Luther King Jr. JHS)
- Upgrade heating, ventilation, electrical and plumbing systems
- Provide energy efficiency improvements, including solar to reduce utility costs and conserve energy
- Upgrade fire safety systems at all schools to meet current safety standards
- Construct new pre-school facilities to replace the 50-year-old MLK Children’s Center
- Replace aging and deteriorating roofs
- Improve access to classroom computers and technology for students
- Renovate and modernize the oldest elementary schools in the district
- Replace deteriorating portable classrooms with permanent classrooms
