On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Pittsburg voters passed Measure S. Measure S is a parcel tax that provides the School District with a reliable, local source of funds for art, music and athletics. Measure S is in effect for seven years.
 
On behalf of Pittsburg Unified School District's Board of Education, students, and staff, we would like to express our appreciation to the Pittsburg Community for supporting the 2016 Measure S Parcel Tax. Measure S funds will help Pittsburg Unified School District provide a stable, local funding source for art, music and athletic essential program equipment and materials, to attract and retain highly qualified teachers and staff, to enhance and expand access to art, music and athletic programs, shall Pittsburg Unified School District levy an annual tax of $91 per taxable parcel (approximately $1,200,000) for seven years, beginning 7/1/2017 with an annual inflation adjustment of $6, with citizen oversight and senior citizen, SSI and SSDI exemptions.

MEASURE S SENIOR EXEMPTION CLAIM FORMS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2023-24 TAX YEAR

Homeowners age 65 and older have through May 31, 2023, to file for the senior exemption for the 2023-24 Tax Year

Pittsburg-Senior Citizens who own and occupy a home in Pittsburg can still apply for exemption from the Pittsburg Unified School District’s Measure S Parcel Tax passed by voters in November 2016. Senior Citizens, age 65 and older, must complete a simple form to be exempt from paying the yearly parcel tax associated with the passage of Measure S.
 
In order to be eligible for the exemption in 2023-24, homeowners must certify that they:
  • own and reside in the home for which they are claiming an exemption
  • be at least 65 years old on or before July 1, 2022
 
If you are exempt from the parcel tax in previous years, you DO NOT need to do it again. The exemption is good for the life of the parcel tax which is 2024.

MEASURE S SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME EXEMPTION CLAIM FORM AVAILABLE FOR THE 2023-2024 TAX YEAR

Must be filed by May 31, 2023, to be effective for the 2023-24 Tax Year

Pittsburg-Senior Citizens who own and occupy a home in Pittsburg can still apply for exemption from the Pittsburg Unified School District’s Measure S Parcel Tax passed by voters in November 2016. Citizens who have been determined to be disabled by the Social Security Administration and receive Supplemental Security Income must complete a simple form to be exempt from paying the yearly parcel tax associated with the passage of Measure S.
 
In order to be eligible for the exemption in 2023-24, homeowners must certify that:
  • they have been determined to be disabled by the Social Security Administration and receive Supplemental Security Income as a result.
  • the property listed on the application is their permanent residence.
  • they have claimed the “homeowner’s exemption” for the property on my application.
 
If you are exempt from the parcel tax in previous years, you DO NOT need to do it again. The exemption is good for the life of the parcel tax which is 2024.
