Multi-Tiered System of Support
The Multi- Tiered System of Support (MTSS) focuses on the academic and behavioral needs of students within the educational system. School counselors work in three domains which include academic, college/career, and social/emotional development. A framework for the delivery of school counseling instruction and services that integrates well within MTSS is called The Multi-Tiered, Multi Domain System of Supports (MTMDSS). Developed by Trish Hatch, PhD, MTMDSS provides tiered levels of school counseling instruction and intervention services addressing students’ needs in the areas of academics, college/career, and social/emotional development. MTMDSS can further be explained in Dr. Hatch’s Draw Video. A planning guide handout and the elementary and secondary MTMDSS models are also provided. Hatching Results, LLC has partnered with Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) and the CDE to provide statewide training and professional development for the Role of the School Counselor in MTSS.
The MTMDSS model in it’s direct and indirect service delivery is integrated across all four components of the MTSS Placement which include Administrative Leadership, Integrated Educational Framework, Family & Community Engagement, and Inclusive Policy Structure & Structure. This webpage is dedicated to providing multiple representations of the manner in which school counselors play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the MTSS framework through the model of MTMDSS.
