Band (Beginning) – This class is designed for anyone (6th, 7th, or 8th grade) wanting to learn how to play a wind band instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone). No prior experience is needed. Students will learn basic notation and how to read music. They will have 4 formal concerts during the year and participate in a few festivals in the spring. This is a yearlong class and students are required to practice 30 minutes daily outside of class and participate in all performances. Open to anyone. 

 Concert Band – The concert band is for students who have successfully completed Beginning Band. It is a yearlong class. The band plays 6 formal concerts during the year as well as participating in several music festivals in the spring. Students are required to practice 30 minutes daily outside of class and participate in all performances. Prerequisite: must have successfully completed beginning band. 

Choir – This class is the first step into the larger choral world. No previous choral experience is needed. The students learn basic notation skills, develop skills in vocal production, and how to sing in a choral setting. The choir performs several concerts throughout the year and participates in the district choir festival as well as the California Music Educators choral festival in the spring, performing various styles of choral literature. This is a yearlong class open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Students are required to practice 30 minutes daily outside of class and participate in all performances. Open to anyone. 

Channel 21/Video – Have you ever wondered what it takes to create our Channel 21 news show? Do you want to learn the skills you need to improve your own YouTube Channel?

Video production students will learn video editing, filming, reporting, lighting, and interviewing skills. Prerequisites: must be trustworthy, organized, responsible, and able to follow instructions. Application required, please see your counselor for more details. Also needed: One teacher recommendation and an individual interview.

Jazz Band – The jazz band meets every day before school from 7:30- 8:20 a.m. The jazz band performs a variety of styles including blues, swing, Latin, and more. The jazz band gives 5 formal concerts each year and participates in many jazz festivals throughout the year. Students are required to practice 30 minutes daily outside of class and participate in all performances. Prerequisite: must be enrolled in another band class and have prior experience with their instrument.
