ABOUT ESSA

ABOUT ESSA

There has recently been a change in federal education laws in states that receive federal funding to support low-income students and English language learners. What was previously called No Child Left Behind has a new focus and called for each state to create a plan called Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This law affects K-12th grade schools and went into effect on December 10, 2015. The law shapes many of our district goals. Part of the inclusions in this act are related to family engagement and the impact on children's long-term learning.

"The ESSA plan honors California’s promise to educators, parents, and students to develop a single state and federal school accountability and support system, ending years of confusion caused by dueling systems. The new integrated model uses multiple data points—graduation rates, suspension rates, test scores, and more—to give a more complete picture of school success."-California Department of Education, Tom Torlakson
